OBJECTIVE:
ISO 14001 label in 2004
 |
ISO
14001: This code corresponds to the use of an environment
management system that meets different international standards.
The ISO 14001 label
is a guarantee
of quality, but on a deeper level it also ensures organisational
efficiency conducive to improving all aspects of the environment
(water, air, fauna, flora, waste, noise, etc).
So being awarded the ISO 14001
label signifies that the establishment in question is perfectly
aware of the impact its activities have on its environment and
that it has taken all the necessary measures to limit any adverse
effects. Striving to attain the label is therefore perfectly
in line with Nice Côte d'Azur Airport's environment policy.

Seven
milestones on the road to ISO 14001 certification:
End
2002: Setting up
a Steering Committee. Selecting an "environmental agent"
to be the committee's main contact in each of the Chamber of
Commerce departments at the airport and an external consultant
(from APAVE Sud).
1st
half of 2003: Analysing
the impact on the environment of every aspect of the airport's
business for which Chamber of Commerce departments are responsible.
June 2003:
Drawing up a list of significant environmental issues at Nice
Côte d'Azur Airport.
2nd half of 2003:
Defining a policy to reduce the Airport's
impact on the environment.
Early
2004: Launching and
implementing an action plan designed to reduce every
department's impact on the environment.
Staff awareness and training campaign.
April 2004:
Mock audit.
June
2004:
ISO 14001 label audit and obtaining.
The Chamber of Commerce has rallied all of its departments around
a project of great important for Nice Côte
d’Azur Airport's environment. Local residents and employees
working at the airport will be the first to benefit. Obviously
this policy will have an even greater impact if all of the Chamber
of Commerce's partners at Nice Côte d'Azur become
involved as well. Air France has already announced its intention
to launch a similar procedure.
