Thanks to the diversity of its network, with more than 105 destinations operated by 53 airlines, the annual increase in traffic at Nice Côte d'Azur airport increased by 1%, with a growing occupancy factor.
For the past 2 years, Aéroports de la Côte d'Azur has initiated a competitiveness policy based on an evolution of airport charges for commercial aviation which is much lower than inflation. In addition, Aéroports de la Côte d'Azur, subject to the approval of the DGAC,will now compensate airlines for delays over 30 minutes caused by the airport.
Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur thus confirms its commitment to performance to support airlines and its territory. Competitiveness and operational performance will drive the Group's future growth and form the basis of the 10-year Strategic Plan of Aéroports de la Côte d'Azur.
These factors protected Nice Côte d'Azur airport from a stormy backdrop in 2014. Despite social disruption and adverse weather conditions, the Nice platform records traffic record for 4th consecutive year with 11.7 million passengers.
The domestic figure, with a limited schedule, shows an annual fall of -4.7% pax and -8.7% in seats offered. In contrast, Europe improved the picture in 2014. The region is doing well and attracts increasing numbers of passengers (+4.4% and +1.8% seats). The British Isles and the Iberian peninsula form the leading duowhich attracted more passengers in 2014, bringing 165,000 additional passengers.
At the extra-European level, the market remains dynamic, with sustainable long-haul lines. The lines to Morocco, Turkey and Russia recorded very good growth, 27%, 12% and 9% respectively. 50,000 additional passengers thus travelled on these lines in 2014. The United Arab Emirates showed growth of around +6%in terms of passengers.
Canada was the most promising long-haul destination in 2014 recording+110% passengers in 2014 and +140% in seat capacity. The arrival of a second airline flying to Montreal, with Air Canada rouge, boosted the region's performance.
The platform, however, regrets not being able to fully support the territory that it helps to develop, due to the traffic rights issue that impedes thedevelopment of its international routeson strategic profitable long-haul routes.
It is already time to mentionnew features in 2015, new destinations or reinforcements, which will determine the success of the next year: Dubrovnik, Tel Aviv, Istanbul, Stuttgart and Amsterdam ... See you in the spring of 2015, for more details!
